In her article, Gina Perry revisits the original Milgram studies. She uncovers some troubling issues that call into question the studies’ internal validity, i.e. did they actually measure obedience? This in turn jeopardises the investigation’s external validity, i.e. can we generalise the findings beyond the immediate setting of Milgram’s laboratory?
