One of the things that creates feelings of dismay among teachers and lecturers is when students who have left exams early tell us that they answered all the questions. The teacher/lecturer then asks: ‘Did you explain your points fully?’ Unfortunately, in some cases, the answer is either ‘no’ or ‘I think so’ or ‘I didn’t think I had to’.

A quick run through previous examination reports (something that everyone approaching exams should be in the habit of doing) will give some indication of just how much of an issue this is. Some examples of this, from different boards, are given below:
