How to answer WJEC paper 3

In this column, we invite experienced examiners from the various exam boards to offer you invaluable advice to help boost your performance in the exams. Jo Bowyer focuses on WJEC paper PY3.

Table 1 Selecting an appropriate statistical test

PY3 is titled ‘Research Methods and Issues in Research’. It requires more in-depth development of ideas that you have covered before — method, design, reliability, validity and ethics — as well as knowing a little about data collection for the statistics question.

The short answer questions in both sections A and B include stimulus material, i.e. the questions are based on a hypothetical research scenario. You will be asked to interpret the data given and to offer comments on possible problems with the study and where improvements could be made. You should spend 25 minutes on each of these questions.
