Common sense and psychological science

The issue of psychological science versus common sense features on AQA (B)’s AS Unit 1 ‘Introducing psychology’ specification. This states that candidates need to understand ‘the differences between scientific and common-sense explanations’ of behaviour. All the other exam boards require you to know about the ‘psychology and science’ debate so, although this article directly addresses AQA (B)’s AS specification, students studying other specifications will find something useful here. For specifications other than AQA (B), the issue is addressed at A2 as follows:
