Banning violent media

Having read Guy Cumberbatch’s article, which focuses on one aspect of violent media — video games — work through the following questions. You may then want to discuss your answers or uncertainties with your fellow students, or you may simply prefer to discuss the questions as a group.

1 To take a rather basic view of this subject, we might say that there are arguments stating that video games can encourage violent behaviour and are damaging to individuals or society, or that they do not encourage this violent behaviour. As Cumberbatch puts it, ‘whether video violence amplifies violence in society’.
