Master the skills to elevate your responses to Edexcel essay questions

This article covers five exam preparation themes and skills you will need to understand if you are to achieve high marks on the longer Edexcel questions.

When presented with an essay question, your immediate priority is to determine exactly what the question wants you to do. The command words used — ‘To what extent…’ or ‘Using the source, evaluate…’ — affect the style and structure of your response. All the essay questions on Components 1, 2 and 3, with the exception of the political ideas questions, use the command word ‘evaluate’.
