In all three AQA papers there is a 25-mark extract question, and there are a number of basic principles that you can apply to all of your answers to this type of question.
It is vital to read the extract carefully, but this is often an area where students go wrong. A slight misinterpretation, or a word or sentence missed, can make all the difference to fully understanding the passage. The last sentence of each paragraph, especially the final one, can be particularly important, but this is often skimmed over, to the students’ considerable disadvantage. The balance of the argument can be lost by careless reading, resulting in lower marks.
