Traditionally, political parties have presented something of a sharp contrast between the USA and the UK. US parties have typically been viewed as weaker, more decentralised and less ideological than their UK counterparts.Success in US politics requires individual energy and initiative, as well as industrious fundraising. In the UK, by contrast, the party is the ‘greasy pole’ by which a political career is forged.
