The global politics of Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has presented a global challenge, but resulted in a far from global response

Covid-19 examples can be used to illustrate many aspects of the topics found in Edexcel Unit 3: global politics. In particular, they relate to state and globalisation, political global governance, regionalism and the EU and comparative theories.

In January 2020, stories about a new disease began to appear in the global media: Covid-19. Within 3 months, many countries around the world had gone into lockdown, as severe restrictions were implemented on the travel, work and social interaction of millions of people. By July 2021, over 180 million people had tested positive for the virus and 4 million had died.
