Your Edexcel politics course is divided into three components, and each component is split into a combination of politics and ideologies. Understanding what is required for each one is the first step towards exam success.

Component 1 (UK politics) is about the way citizens engage in politics and interact with the state in the UK, and what are known as the core ideologies. It explores how political parties work and what they stand for, how the various electoral systems currently deployed in the UK work and what determines the way people vote, especially the influence of the media. You will be expected to explain how all this makes up a democracy and to evaluate how well that democracy works. The ideologies aspect of this component covers the three core ideologies:
