In many ways, knowledge and understanding (AO1) are the most important aspects of your learning (Box 1). You will not be able to get analysis and evaluation (AO2) marks unless you get the AO1 marks first, as you have to be analysing and evaluating the right information.
Knowledge is what you have rote learned. You need to know a range of points for each topic. Knowledge also requires breadth — your ability to suggest a wide variety of accurate, different and relevant points. First, you must make sure it is the correct knowledge for the question. For example, if the question is on voting systems, it might involve accurately naming the four systems used in the UK and being able to write where they are used and in what sort of election.
