Understanding and using evidence is crucial to success in A2 US politics. A theoretical understanding is important but you need to back this up with examples to support your ideas and show greater knowledge and understanding of the US political system. You can maximise your marks by developing three key skills — learning how best to apply, choose and assess evidence.
Edexcel examiners do not reward evidence separately, but it forms part of their overall judgement of your answer. Using relevant, contemporary evidence and applying it to the question will increase your marks for both 15- and 45-mark questions. Table 1 sets out how examiners can reward the use of evidence in 45-mark questions. Examples are less relevant to achieving marks in AO3 (communication and coherence) which has a maximum of 9 marks.
