How to use examples effectively

To achieve high marks within the upper A/B grade boundary, the AQA AS specification makes clear the requirement for ‘contextual awareness’ in the form of ‘relevant evidence’ and ‘contemporary examples to illustrate points made’. The expectation of appropriate exemplification features in the generic mark schemes for all top-level responses (Box 1).

Relevant examples allow evaluation and analysis to be grounded in a contemporary political context. This means that it is vital to include appropriate political events, actions and incidents along with electoral results, trends and statistics to support your knowledge and understanding of political concepts, theories and institutions and the relationships between them.
