How to research and choose a politics course

If you are hoping to study politics at university, you are spoilt for choice. Several hundred different undergraduate courses are on offer, at more than 90 institutions. You will need to consider the following factors when choosing your course.

The first thing to decide is what to study. ‘Politics’ includes a huge range of options, so read the course content carefully to ensure it interests you. If you are particularly fascinated by UK politics, European politics, global politics or political theory, make sure there is a module that includes it. Some courses also offer a work placement towards the end of your course, which may last a whole year, so check to see if this is the case and, if so, consider whether this appeals to you.
