It is essential to have a good knowledge of contemporary political developments. This will sharpen your understanding of how the US political system works in a way that studying the pure theory of the system cannot. The majority of your evidence will come from 2008 onwards, although in some cases emphasising evidence from the last 2 years is desirable.
