FreedomWorks is one of the most influential think tanks/pressure groups active in the USA today. A consideration of its organisation and influence gives an insight not only into pressure group strategy but also into some of the most significant issues in current US politics.
FreedomWorks was founded in 1984 as Citizens of a Sound Economy. It became a much higher profile body from 2003 when it hired as its chairman Dick Armey, former Texas congressman and House majority leader, who was a major force behind the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress.
