A-level physics exam papers have a large percentage of marks awarded for calculations. Many questions are heavily structured, so that students are led through the calculation in 2 or 3-mark stages – in effect, the examiner signposts a successful strategy for how students can show what they know and can do.
There are always some longer calculation-based questions, which provide a significant quantity of data and leave the students free to pick their own way through. Part (b)(ii) in this question is an example of this approach.
