Domestic ‘heat batteries’

Domestic heat pumps are great at heating our homes but do not provide instant hot water. Could heat batteries be the answer?

The amount of energy needed to heat water is determined by its specific heat capacity, mass and the required temperature change. A heat battery uses the change of state of a substance with a high specific latent heat of fusion to provide sufficient power to provide instant hot water in a home.
