On 15 January 2023 the Manta, a surplus research vessel used for oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico, was deliberately sunk off the coast of Florida to create an artificial reef. The reef is both a habitat for fish and a site for diving. The sinking was reported in this WMBB News 13 YouTube video:
