Reciprocals

Reciprocals occur in many physics equations. You will also come across reciprocals in maths, but in those cases you may treat them slightly differently than you do in physics.

We can calculate the reciprocal of a number by dividing 1 by the number — for example, the reciprocal of 4 is ¼. The reciprocal can also be written as 4–1:
