What is so special about diamonds?

Carol Tear looks at websites that explore the properties of diamonds, explaining why they are so popular as jewellery and investments, and why they are special in other applications too

In October 2020 a rare, flawless, 102-carat white diamond sold for over £12 million at an auction in Hong Kong. It was reported that the buyer had bagged a bargain, because in the past diamonds of this quality have sold for between £8 million and £25 million. The BBC report of the sale can be found here:
