Atmospheric waves

In 2020 scientists at the Universites of Hawaii (USA) and Kyoto (Japan) reported the discovery of large-scale atmospheric pressure waves that circle the globe at speeds of over 1100kmh–1 (Figure 1). The discoverers describe the atmosphere as vibrating rather like a giant bell. To see an animation, go to:
