Natural convection

Why does convection happen? Rick Marshall describes natural convection, which takes place without the fluid being moved by pumps or fans

The terms in bold link to topics in the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and CCEA A-level specifications, as well as the IB, Pre-U and SQA exam specifications.

Convection takes place in a fluid only if values of parameters including temperature gradient and density combine to produce a dimensionless number greater than a critical value.
