Using medical imaging to examine the body non-invasively has revolutionised medicine. Problems can be diagnosed and, in some cases, treatment can also be carried out without exploratory operations

The first form of medical imaging was based on X-rays, which were discovered in 1895. Since then many other techniques have been developed. This website from the Siemens company is a good place to start because it gives an overview of techniques, and is aimed at patients and carers:
