The atomic nucleus

This Physics online looks at the development of the atomic nucleus model that we use today

The first indication that the atom had a nucleus came from experiments in which alpha particles were scattered by gold foil. The experiments were carried out by Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden, starting in 1909. These web pages of the Cambridge Physics site explain how they did the experiments:
