Modelling the Earth’s climate

How can we model the Earth’s climate as simply as possible? And how can we use the model to estimate the Earth’s average temperature?

The terms in bold link to topics in the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and CCEA A-level specifications, as well as the IB, Pre-U and SQA exam specifications.

The assumptions in a simple climate model involve treating the Sun and Earth as black-body radiators, and using the Stefan-Boltzmann law and the inverse-square law for radiation intensity.
