In AS and A-level physics you are expected to be able to calculate the areas and volumes of common shapes, to be able to use Pythagoras’s theorem, and to be able to calculate angles. It is almost certain that at GCSE you will have been taught about how to find the area and volume of different shapes. However, maybe you have not used these ideas for some time and are suddenly faced with needing to know how to measure the area of a trapezium or a non-right-angled triangle. These are skills that are needed for AS and A-level physics and you should be able to handle such ideas confidently.
Nothing much will be said about the area and volume of simple shapes such as rectangular blocks and circles or spheres except that circles and spheres do sometimes cause confusion and, in the heat of an examination, the wrong formula is not infrequently used.
