The PHED3 exam paper was introduced in June 2010 to test knowledge and understanding of three theoretical areas and includes a ‘stretch and challenge’ element via the compulsory extended answer questions. As you can see from Table 1, which outlines the grade boundaries for the last 2 years, this paper has proven to be a challenge, with a score of 47 marks out of 84 achieving a grade A in June 2011. However, while this mark may appear to be relatively low, the application of some good examination technique would have allowed many students to improve their performance considerably.
