Racing against the world’s elite downhill bikers

Downhill mountain bike racer Jack Reading explains how sponsorship can help you achieve in your chosen sport

Iam a 22 year old juggling a real life with a dream one. I have less than 1 year of a 4-year optometry degree to complete at the University of Manchester. I also race mountain bikes on the world circuit.

The mountain bikes I race probably aren’t what you’re thinking of. I don’t wear lycra, I don’t pedal uphill and I never sit on a saddle when I race. I most certainly won’t be pedalling around flat Essex for the 2012 Olympics. I’m a ‘downhiller’. We race from A to B, from the top of a mountain to the bottom, over whatever terrain lies in front of us, in all weather. I love my sport and feel great passion towards it.
