LONDON 2012

When London was awarded the 2012 Olympics, Lord Coe and his bid team were keen to use it as a catalyst for a revolution in sports participation. To this end, the minister for sport, Hugh Robertson, launched the Places People Play initiative in November 2010 to bring the sporting legacy to life in communities across the country.

Places People Play has a number of partners involved in its delivery, including Sport England, the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association (BPA). One of its key aims is to bring the magic of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games into the heart of local communities, encouraging more people to get involved in sport.
