From TriGold to Olympic Gold?

Elite triathlete Mark Buckingham gives a personal insight into the various systems that are available to support talented athletes from an early age.

In athletics the ultimate goal is to stand on top of the podium at the Olympic Games. This was my dream while at school and college.

The sport of athletics has four main disciplines: track and field, cross-country, road running and fell running, which all operate under the national governing body, UK Athletics (UKA). In order to achieve the Olympic dream, athletes have to be involved in track and field, the marathon or race walking, which are the only athletic disciplines recognised by the Olympic movement.
