Swimming champion Giles Long gives Symond Burrows his take on success.

Giles won gold in the 100m butterfly at Sydney in 2000

Giles Long MBE overcame cancer to win three Paralympic gold medals and numerous other honours. What can we learn from his experience?

Giles started swimming aged 7. He showed great promise and was soon dreaming of the Olympics, but when he was 13 a bone tumour was found in his right arm. Treatment left Giles without the use of his right shoulder, but he continued to swim using just his left arm, mainly so he could keep in touch with friends at the swimming club.
