Anew element of the A2 Edexcel PE specification is a requirement to look at the short-term and long-term technical preparations that elite athletes undertake in order to achieve optimum performance in global sports competitions. Here we look at the short-term phase.

Short-term preparation The time immediately before competition. This may be restricted to a few hours but normally in elite sport the build-up to a global sports competition can begin several days before the event.
