Attribution theory is a topic covered by all of the major exam boards.

One consideration for participation in sport and exercise is how individuals interpret and explain the causes of their successes and failures. Developed by psychologist Fritz Heider in the 1950s, attribution theory suggests that individuals seek to understand the reasons behind events and behaviours, and they do so by attributing causes to them. The reasons or attributions people give for why or how they failed or why or how they succeeded at something can affect motivation, confidence, and therefore future participation.
