EXAM FOCUS

Consolidating knowledge of the cardiovascular system

Anna Snook breaks down the pathway of the cardiovascular system

The cardiovascular system is a major topic on all A-level PE exam boards: AQA, Edexcel and OCR.

Often, in pursuit of consolidating our understanding, we read and review the material on a topic within the resources we have available to us. This may include textbooks, reliable websites, revision guides and so on. Crucially, it is what we then do with that reading, that makes the difference as to whether we are successfully able to consolidate and retain that information. Reading, note-making and assimilation into more concise versions of notes, like revision cards is fine, but real understanding comes from such things as twisting the information, looking at it backwards, questioning the content and challenging ourselves. In short, doing something with the information. So, this is what brings us here, to learning the cardiovascular system as a pathway from start to finish, like a story, including the information we need to know at A-level. Have a read, twist, challenge, consider and question. Then we will break this down and discuss.
