SA Many people don’t really realise that you were a great tennis player yourself. What drew you to tennis originally?
JM I got into tennis through my parents. They both played at our local club and they both played for the north of Scotland. So they played pretty well and they got me started when I was big enough to wield a wooden racquet. In those days, the court was huge, and the balls were white and the racquets were wooden and quite heavy. So you had to be about 10 or 11 before you could get into it. Whereas nowadays kids can get it into it at 4 or 5 with the mini racquets and the sponge balls and the small courts and so forth. So that’s how I got started.
