Commercialisation in sport: interview with Sean Jarvis

Interview with Olympic rower Katherine Grainger

Part 2

Sue Anstiss continues her interview with Dame Katherine Grainger, who won five Olympic rowing medals (including gold at London 2012) and now sits as chair of UK Sport (see PE REVIEW, Vol. 16. No. 3, pp. 31– 33 for part 1)

SA Can you take us back to that moment when you and Anna Watkins won gold in the double sculls?

KG Every single athlete will have had a journey to get to the Olympic start line. I think for me it was really important not to feel the weight of history or any burden at the start line. You want to feel it’s only about that moment. Just one stroke at a time and it’s just what you need to do. I didn’t need to go over my history to know what I was bringing to that start line.
