Rock climbing: physiological factors affecting performance

In an interview with British rock climber and A-level PE student Nathan Whaley, Adam Morton explores some of the key physiological factors affecting performance, which you can relate to your studies

AQA, Edexcel and OCR all require knowledge of the muscular and skeletal systems, injury prevention and rehabilitation, biomechanics, training methods, and diet and nutrition.

All major exam boards require you to answer questions based on the three different assessment objectives (AOs). This article considers these in the contex of the physiological demands of rock climbing. Nathan’s answers show how you can demonstrate your knowledge and understanding (AO1) of physiology, apply it to a sport (AO2) and analyse and then evaluate how physiological factors can affect performance (AO3).
