PE REVIEW at Rio 2016

A number of past contributors to PE REVIEW were present at Rio 2016 in various capacities — either as elite athletes competing for medals, Team GB officials supporting the athletes, or as part of the BBC’s media team reporting on their efforts

Georgina Harland, the British Olympic Association’s Sport Engagement Manager and past Olympian, acted as Team GB’s deputy chef de mission. Her role in Rio focused on athlete services in sports such as hockey, fencing, shooting and modern pentathlon. She won an Olympic bronze medal herself in modern pentathlon in Athens 2004, after which she wrote for PE REVIEW when it first launched.

Siblings Alistair and Jonathan won gold and silver in the triathlon. Earlier on the day of their success, fellow PE REVIEW author and training partner Mark Buckingham was on BBC Breakfast spending a ‘mega-morning in Leeds’ promoting the benefits of duathlon/ triathlon as participatory sports for everyone to have a go at.
