Gambling in sport can be linked to match fixing, bribery and illegal sports betting. Each of these practices seriously threatens traditional sporting ethics and morals, and can be classed as deviance (seriously breaking the rules or — perhaps more appropriately in this case — the norms of sport).

Illegal sports betting: placing a bet with an unregistered bookmaker (‘bookie’); linked to match fixing and organised crime.
