In 1990 I became head coach of a large indoor tennis club, where I was responsible for eight full-time coaches, a pro shop and a massive junior programme of 600 kids a week, with a number of part-time coaches.
At this time I was reading a lot of management, motivational and selfimprovement books, and I was eager to motivate my team and create an environment where everybody had the same goals and ambitions. We would have a weekly team meeting where I would share ideas, emphasise the values of the programme and continually ask the other coaches for their ideas and input as to how they thought we could improve.
