We have already looked at the development of the major US sports (see pp. 18–21). But what prestige do the relatively minor sports of lacrosse and association football have?

Lacrosse originated from a tribal and ritual game played by Native Americans in what is now Canada. The game was extensively adapted and codified by European immigrants to North America to create its current collegiate and professional form.
