Supporting tomorrow’s sporting stars

Steve Redgrave (centre) celebrates winning gold at the 2000 Olympics

Established in 1976, the SportsAid charity supports 1,500 of the best young sports performers in the UK. The Duchess of Cambridge is a patron, and Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy and Steve Redgrave are just some of the athletes who received SportsAid funding early in their sporting development.

As a charity, SportsAid relies on individual donations and fundraising events for income, though Sport England does help it to meet its core running costs. Paralympic runner Danny Crates and Olympic diver Leon Taylor — who were supported by SportsAid on their way to medals in Athens 2004 — both completed the London marathon to raise funds for the charity.
