Essays in this unit frequently fall into Level 3 of the mark scheme, and are typically credited with 14 out of 24 marks. Most AS history students should be capable of achieving a Level 3 result, but to get into the higher grades you need to be hitting Levels 4 or 5. To convince an examiner that you deserve to be graded at these levels you need to be very consistent in terms of your analysis and the detail of your evidence, avoid over-generalised points, and not drift away from the question set. Extra credit will always go to those candidates who can link factors together and differentiate with regards to the relative importance of certain factors.
