The fall and rise of Labour, 1945–97

The Labour Party won two decisive victories in the 1945 and 1997 general elections under Clement Attlee and Tony Blair respectively. The period in between saw the party struggle to overcome internal divisions and produce policies that appealed to the bulk of the UK voters, giving the Conservatives two long periods in office
