Applying to university?

Charlotte Sleigh, director of student admissions at Kent University, gives her view on applying to study history

Pius Lee/Fotolia

Getting a place to study history is about two things: finding the university that is right for you, and then persuading the admissions tutor that you are right for it.

When it comes to choosing a university, ask yourself what kinds of history you might like to study. Medieval? Chinese? Ancient? Political? Environmental? Racial? Dig around on the websites of your preferred universities to see what courses or modules they offer. Be patient, and see if you can drill right down into the module descriptions provided for current undergraduates.
