The question below is taken from the OCR F961 ‘Modern British History’ AS Period Studies essay paper, for which you are required to write two essays in 1½ hours. ‘Thatcher’s foreign policy’ is part of the topic on ‘British foreign and imperial policies, 1945–90’ and is one of six key issues that make up the topic.

Questions are set on three of the key issues in each examination session, although questions may cover more than one key issue. In studying ‘Thatcher’s foreign policy’, you should have considered Thatcher’s aims, the major crises she faced — such as Zimbabwe, the Falklands War and Kuwait — her relations with Reagan and her attitude towards Europe.
