When John F. Kennedy became president in early 1961 the USA was already embroiled in a deteriorating situation in Vietnam. Over the next decade US troops became more involved in the fighting in southeast Asia, then were pulled out and Saigon fell to the communists from the north. As well as understanding the military events of the Vietnam War, this module covers the effects of the war at home in the USA and the context of the wider Cold War.
