In 1945 the Second World War ended but the Cold War began. Germany was a battleground once again — but this time the conflict was ideological rather than military. There was considerable tension and fear between the two German states and their western and Soviet backers. From the Berlin blockade and construction of the Berlin Wall to the collapse of communism and reunification, this module looks at the role of important individuals alongside economic, ideological and political trends.

The exam has three essay questions and you must answer two of them. The exam gives you an opportunity to demonstrate that you can communicate the knowledge and understanding that you have learned in this unit, as well as the historical skills you have accumulated over your entire A-level course.
