AQA’s AS option, ‘Britain 1906–51’, deals with the first half of the twentieth century, a period of rapid and significant change in Britain. In 1906, Britain was the most powerful country in the world. By 1951, it had been overtaken by other powers as the Cold War began. In between, Britain went through two world wars and the Great Depression, the Labour Party had emerged as one of the two main political parties and women had won the right to vote.
